Dear Co-op friends,
A couple things:
1.) Our main web presence is our facebook page (unfortunately very low in Google searches for Monroe Park grocery Co-op). It is: Facebook.com/Grocerycoop. Please visit there for updated general information, regular updates on what we carry, and information such as the fact that...
2.) We are closed the weekend of Friday, July 29th, and Saturday the 30th. Margie and Biff, such a big part of what we do, are getting married that weekend and the store's space will be used for the reception. Aside from this, count on us being open every Friday and Saturday.
Hope to see you at the Co-op!

Sat 5/7: EBT, Healing, and Expanded Hours
Greetings dear Co-op friends!
What’s the matter? A little grocery store cynicism? Have you been beaten down? Beaten down by long lines, rudeness, and unhealthy foods? Then mam or sir, you must return... you must RETURN to the REMEMBRANCE of your noble birthright. Yay the DESTINY, that beckons you fourth to the threshold of endless aisles of milk and honey, through verdant fooded pastures where ANGELS dance on shelves and the TOUCH.. of an egg heals both body and soul, and ankle swelling. Friend, You need to come by this Saturday for a HEALING!! We have a grocery room full of organic produce …MEAT… and home-baked this that and the other and it’s waiting here, for you. We need somebody to RECEIVE this healing!! We need somebody to CLAIM this box of organic produce!! At the LOW, low price of seven dollars, you best claim your box before I do. And yet, brothers and sisters, and yet, let's go about this with all COOLness. It's a long, hot road and this place is just starting to pop.
New for the week of Saturday May 7th:
We now accept EBT funds!
And, we have new hours! We’re now open 12:30 – 4pm in the old weather amnesty room at the drop-in center, same address as before. 744 S Main, the Our Lady of the Road Drop-in Center.
Our new Co-op room has a rec. area… with a ping-pong table!! Come and play with us! We also have a comfy couch corner if you would prefer peace and quiet.
We have a Mother’s Day Meat Special running this week, with low-price meat packages designed for Mother’s Day grilling, school lunches, and steak fights.
Want more general information on the Co-op?

Peace to you,

Healthy, Affordable Food Through Cooperation
The basics The Monroe Park Grocery Co-op provides low-income persons south of downtown a healthy, accessible, and affordable food source that is owned and operated by its own community. Creating class-inclusive community around quality food requires us to work with growers and the broader community to create the universally accessible, locally-based food system which will in turn sustain our own effort.
Market days These community social events run 2-4pm every Saturday in the Our Lady of the Road Drop-in Center at 744 S. Main St., the white warehouse building just south of the Transpo station. Shop, but stay awhile to sit around with new friends over free coffee and a healthy, $3 suggested donation lunch. Take in entertainment and programming such as nutrition and classes, with child-care on site.
The food We offer healthy staples from each food group and assorted common groceries and household items. We focus on what we can grow, prepare, or bake ourselves or in our local network. “Seconds” items and volunteer-preparation allow us to offer nutritious food at mass-production prices. Very soon we will accept SNAP and WIC funds.
Membership Our community requires investment from everyone who shops or attends regularly. Low-income “neighbor members”, our main constituency, contribute one service period to the Co-op per month. Financially stable supporters are invited to “sponsor membership” or “student membership”, which involve monetary dues. Membership meetings will be held monthly as we develop into a full-fledged worker/consumer owned cooperative.
Join us for a Market Day with no membership obligation! Shop, have lunch, or volunteer to help with set-up or baking!
